Henley has won the regional Britain in Bloom competition for the third year in a row, picking up another three awards at the same time.
The town won the top prizes in the Chiltern and Thames region and in the best community section, Valley Road School pupils also won an award in the schools category for their floral efforts.
Judges at the presentation ceremony in Milton Keynes announced they had awarded Henley 164 points in the town category, with Henley only just missing out on the gold award. The judges said the variety of people involved in the campaign was "quite exceptional," and that the formal gardens "were a treat to behold".
Chairman of the Henley in Bloom committee, Cllr. Elizabeth Hodgkin received the outstanding achievement award, which recognised her efforts within the competition. Cllr. Hodgkin said: "I am delighted. We couldn't have done this without the enormous amount of help we have received by so many. The people of Henley have been wonderful, as have the members of our parks team."
The Mayor of Henley, Cllr. Gill Zakss spoke after the awards ceremony: "It is a wonderful honour, but I am especially pleased for the recognition Liz has received .Her drive, enthusiasm and inspiration have been amazing. I know she has a big team behind her, but every big team needs a big leader, and that leader has been Liz."
